HULUDAO, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Xingcheng, a tiny coastal city with a population of less than 500,000, has quietly emerged as a global giant in the swimwear industry. It produces an astonishing 170 million pieces of swimwear every year -- one out of every four swimwear items sold worldwide is made here.
Originating in the 1980s, Xingcheng's swimwear sector has evolved over 40 years, transitioning from small family workshops selling on beaches to a modern, intelligent manufacturing industry with global e-commerce sales channels.
To date, players in Xingcheng's swimwear industry have generated an annual combined output value of 15 billion yuan (about 2.09 billion U.S. dollars).
Xinhua correspondent role-plays as a swimwear family workshop owner in the 1980s and "time-travels" to modern times, witnessing the once-unimaginable dreams come true -- Xingcheng's swimwear is sold around the globe.
