The 18 boxes of Sinovac vaccines were received by the top officials of region 2 to include Health Regional Director Rio Magpantay, Civil Defense Regional Director Harold Cabreros, City Mayor Jefferson Soriano and the chiefs of the priority receiving hospitals.

After the disinfection of the items, the vaccines were immediately brought to the cold storage facility at the DOH regional office here.

Magpantay said the vaccines will be transported tomorrow to the priority hospitals to include the Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC), Tuguegarao City Peoples General Hospital (TCPGH), Regional Health Service of the Philippine National Police (RHS-PNP), all located in this city, Southern Isabela Medical Center (SIMC) in Santiago City and the Region II Trauma and Medical Center (R2TMC) in Nueva Vizcaya.

On the part of the receiving hospitals, the chiefs and representatives said they are already prepared for the arrival of the vaccines in their respective cold storage facilities up to the vaccination day.

Dr. Glenn Matthew Baggao of CVMC said they will start with the vaccination proper on March 7, Sunday.

Dr. Baggao also volunteered himself to be the first health frontliner in the region to be inoculated to be followed by other medical doctors and health care providers assigned at the CVMC COVID-19 ward.

The TCPGH healthworkers, on the other hand, will be vaccinated on March 8, Monday, simultaneously with the PNP healthcare workers and R2TMC medical staff while the SIMC has scheduled its vaccination on March 10.

For his part, Cabreros assured that the protocols in transporting the vaccines from the DOH cold storage facility to the recipient hospitals are already in place with the assistance of the police.

Cabreros also said they are now negotiating for an air asset to transport the vaccines alloted for Batanes General Hospital in Bacso, Batanes. (ALM/OTB/PIA-Cagayan)
