Former U.S. men's national team striker Bobby Wood has agreed to join Real Salt Lake this summer, The Athletic reported Wednesday.
Wood, 28, signed a pre-contract to join the MLS club when his contract with Hamburg expires at the end of June, per the report. However, the report says he could seek an earlier termination of his deal with the German club in order to join RSL in time for the as-yet-undetermined start of the 2021 regular season.
Wood is looking for more playing time, which has dwindled since Hamburg was relegated to the Bundesliga's second division after the 2017-18 season. He played just 153 minutes in 2019-20 and has only played 121 minutes so far this season.
He has played his entire professional career in Germany, beginning with 1860 Munich II in 2010.
The Honolulu native earned 45 international caps with the USMNT from 2013-18.
