CENTRAL WEST, NSW, Australia - A major police operation took place across the Central West in recent days.

Pubs and other licensed premises in Mudgee and Dubbo were targeted in drug sweeps which began on Friday and continued into the weekend.

Methylamphetamine and cocaine were among drugs seized during the high visibility police operation in the Mudgee and Dubbo townships.

Officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District, along with a drug detection dog from the Dog Unit in Sydney, hit the six pubs and licensed premises in the Mudgee and Dubbo CBDs.

Aside from the extensive searches of the premises, staged over Friday and Saturday, and into the early hours of Sunday, thirty-two individuals were searched.

Police recorded six drug detections resulting in six people being issued Field Court Attendance Notices for possessing prohibited drugs.

Drugs located include MDMA tablets, cocaine and methylamphetamines.

In one incident, about 10.20pm on Friday night, officers attended a licensed premises on Church Street at Mudgee for a search.

On approaching two men, it is alleged a 24-year-old man dropped a small bag containing a white powder substance onto the ground and proceeded to step on it.

Police seized the bag which was later identified as containing cocaine.

The man was charged with possessing a prohibited drug. He was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice to appear before Mudgee Local Court on Wednesday 8 January 2020.

About 12.25am on Sunday, officers attended a licensed premises on Macquarie Street at Dubbo when a drug detection dog indicated the presence of a prohibited drug on a 28-year-old man.

Police searched the man and allegedly seized a small plastic resealable bag containing cocaine.

The man was charged with possessing a prohibited drug and was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice to appear before Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday 8 January 2020.

Orana Mid Western Police Districting Acting Crime Manager, Detective Sergeant Joshua Holgate, said police will continue to target the use of prohibited drugs within the district.
